Make it Rain! Irrigation Timer How-To
Setting your irrigation clock doesn't have to be intimidating. First, identify whether you have an analog (dial-based) or digital (screen-and-button) timer. Start by setting the correct time and date—usually by turning the dial to “Set Clock” or “Current Time” and adjusting the hour, minute, AM/PM, and day of the week using the dial or arrow buttons. Then, choose your watering start time. This is when your system will begin watering, and most timers allow multiple start times per day.
Once your start time is set, program the watering duration for each zone. For example, you might water Zone 1 for 10 minutes and Zone 2 for 15 minutes. Next, decide which days your system will run—specific days of the week, odd or even days, or intervals like every three days. After programming, manually test the system to make sure each zone activates correctly and that all sprinklers are functioning. When everything looks good, turn the dial back to “Auto” or “Run” so your system follows the programmed schedule.
For best results, water early in the morning to minimize evaporation and prevent fungal growth, and avoid watering when rain is in the forecast. If this process feels overwhelming or you'd like expert guidance, we offer a Irrigation / Sprinklers Service and Repair Program.
